What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a system of treatment which has been developed over thousands of years by doctors in China. It sees all the body's functions running mainly on Qi (vital energy). When the Qi gets blocked or weakened, the health of the person is affected. The Qi flows through the body in a network of channels which connect the internal organs with the surface of the body. The points on those channels where the Qi is most accessible are the points that we stimulate with needles. By doing this, we can balance, unblock, or strengthen the Qi according to what is needed, and also regulate the internal organs, often using points quite far from the organ itself.
Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at the person as a whole, getting to the root of the problem through a complex process of diagnosis, which takes into account all aspects of your body and mind. You can expect to get not only relief from your immediate symptoms but a long-term improvement in your general health.
What is Acupressure?
Acupressure (called Tuina Massage in China) works on all the same principles as acupuncture, only using the fingers and hands rather than needles.
Acupressure has a similar effect to acupuncture, but often in a gentler, more generalized way. It is particularly good for stress-related conditions and for people who are weakened physically or emotionally.
Both treatments leave people with a deep sense of physical and mental relaxation, revitalization, and well-being.
